USDT at crypto casinos: TRON vs Ethereum, and the Canadian catch
This guide covers USDT, or Tether, at crypto casinos from Canada — and the catch most guides skip. Canada’s registered crypto platforms had to stop selling it by the CSA’s December 29, 2023 deadline.[2] On September 26, 2026, one USDT was worth about C$1.41.[14] Below: what Canadians send instead, TRON and Ethereum fees, both fees at the casino, and the networks Stake, Winz, BitStarz, Roobet and 7Bit list.

Casino cashiers still take USDT. BitStarz lists it with no casino fee and a 10 USDT minimum deposit.[17]

Why Canadian platforms don’t sell USDT
Registered platforms can offer a stablecoin only under conditions set by Canadian securities regulators. The CSA’s list of issuer undertakings names two: USDC from Circle and QCAD from QCAD Digital Trust. Tether isn’t on it.[1]
The cut-off came first. The CSA’s notice calls stablecoins value-referenced crypto assets, or VRCAs. Platforms had to “no longer allow clients to buy, deposit” them, bar certain fiat-backed ones, “by December 29, 2023.”[2]

On September 26, 2026, USDT wasn’t in Wealthsimple’s withdrawal list, Coinsquare’s fee table or Shakepay’s network list.[6] [7] [5]
What Canadians send instead
From a platform on the CSA’s registered list, there are two routes.[4]
- USDC, the US-dollar stablecoin registered platforms can sell. Wealthsimple sends it on ERC-20, Solana and Base; Shakepay on Ethereum, Base, Arbitrum and Polygon.[6] [5]
- BTC or LTC, then play in that coin. Our Bitcoin deposit guide covers the route from Interac.
All five casinos below list USDC as well as USDT.[15] [27] [17] [20] [21] The trick is matching networks. Here is how the two platforms line up with Stake’s USDC list:

Base isn’t on Stake’s USDC list, so pick another network for a Stake deposit. Can the casino swap USDC into USDT for you? None of the help pages we read describes a coin-to-coin swap in the cashier; the cashier’s coin list shows which coins and networks each casino takes.

USDT on TRON: energy and bandwidth
TRON prices a USDT transfer in two resources. Bandwidth “covers the byte size of transactions stored on-chain”. Energy “covers the computation the TVM performs when executing a smart contract”.[9]
Each account gets up to 600 free Bandwidth over a rolling 24 hours. Beyond staked TRX and that quota, “the network can burn TRX from the sender’s balance”.[9] On September 26, 2026, the chain charged 100 sun per unit of energy and 1,000 sun per byte; 1 TRX is 1,000,000 sun.[10]
We pulled the last 50 confirmed USDT transfers at about 12:00 UTC. Each used exactly 64,285 or 130,285 energy, plus 345 bytes of bandwidth (a few used 339).[11]

These are our calculations for a wallet with no staked TRX and no free bandwidth left.[14] Why two figures? The usual explanation: the higher one applies when the receiving address holds no USDT yet, so the contract writes a new record. That’s our interpretation; we haven’t seen it confirmed in TRON’s own documentation.
USDT on Ethereum: gas
Ethereum’s formula is short: “units of gas used * (base fee + priority fee)”. The base fee is burned and the priority fee tips the validator. A plain ETH transfer uses 21,000 gas.[12]
A USDT transfer calls a contract, so it uses about twice that. Eight USDT transfers in block 26,061,490 used 41,297–46,097 gas. The base fee was 0.060 gwei; with tips, senders paid 1.06–2.06 gwei.[13]
At ETH ≈ C$3,804, that’s about C$0.01 on the base fee alone, and up to about C$0.36 with the highest tip we saw — our calculation.[14] Ethereum adds a block every 12 seconds.[24] Gas moves a lot, so compare networks on the day you send, not by habit.

At C$1.41, Stake’s 1 USDT fee is about C$1.41 — our calculation. Winz’s C$32 is our conversion at the Bank of Canada rate of September 25, 2026.[29] Roobet credits USDT deposits after 3 confirmations and sends withdrawals after 3.[20] [23]
Stated processing times differ too. BitStarz’s FAQ gives a 10-minute average cashout, and Winz’s terms aim to pay within 1 hour.[18] [26] Stake doesn’t publish one. How these feed our scores is on the rating method page.

Sending it: five steps
The order matters more than the speed. Start in the casino, not in your wallet.
- Open the casino’s cashier, pick the coin, then pick the network.
- Copy the deposit address it shows for that network.
- In your wallet or exchange, choose the same coin and the same network.
- Send a small test above the casino’s minimum deposit.
- Wait for the test to be credited — Roobet, for one, waits for 3 confirmations — then send the rest.[20]
A fresh address for each network is normal. Reusing one from another network is how coins get lost.
Wrong network, lost money
The network menu matters more than the coin menu. Shakepay: “Sending assets on an unsupported network (for example BEP-20) may result in permanent loss of funds. Shakepay cannot recover funds sent on unsupported networks.”[5]
Wealthsimple says the same, and adds the fix: “We recommend testing out a small amount first.”[6] Keep the test above the casino’s minimum deposit.
A TRON address starts with T. Ethereum and BNB Smart Chain addresses both start with 0x, so the address alone won’t tell ERC-20 from BEP-20. Only the network menu will.
Old networks are a trap of their own. Tether “is no longer issuing or obligated to redeem Tether Tokens on the Kusama, Bitcoin Cash SLP, Omni Layer, EOS and Algorand blockchains.”[8] If a cashier ever shows one of those, ask support before sending.
USDT tracks the US dollar, not CAD
USDT follows the US dollar. On September 26, 2026, CoinGecko priced it at 0.9998 US dollars, or about C$1.41.[14] So C$100 bought roughly 71 USDT that day — our calculation.
When the Canadian dollar moves against the US dollar, the CAD value of your USDT balance moves with it. The USDT count stays put. USDC behaves the same way.

Questions Canadians ask
Can I buy USDT in Canada?
Not on Canada’s CSA-registered crypto platforms. Only Circle (USDC) and QCAD Digital Trust have filed stablecoin issuer undertakings with the CSA, and platforms had to stop letting clients buy or deposit other such coins by December 29, 2023. Registered platforms sell coins such as USDC and BTC, which all five casinos in our table accept.
Which USDT network is cheapest for a casino deposit?
It changes daily. On September 26, 2026, a USDT transfer on Ethereum cost about C$0.01 to C$0.36 in gas. On TRON, a wallet without staked TRX burned about C$3.23 or C$6.37 in TRX. Both are our calculations from live network data. The casino also has to list the network you pick.
What happens if I send USDT on the wrong network?
The funds may be lost for good. Shakepay says it cannot recover funds sent on unsupported networks, and Wealthsimple says it can’t retrieve such transfers. Match the network in your wallet to the one in the cashier letter for letter, and send a small test first. ERC-20 and BEP-20 addresses look identical, both starting with 0x.
How long does a USDT withdrawal from a crypto casino take?
Two clocks: the casino’s processing, then the network. BitStarz’s FAQ gives a 10-minute average cashout and Winz’s terms aim to pay within 1 hour. Roobet sends USDT after 3 network confirmations; Stake doesn’t publish a time. Ethereum adds a block every 12 seconds. These are stated figures, not our measurements.
Is USDT worth the same as a Canadian dollar?
No. USDT tracks the US dollar. On September 26, 2026, CoinGecko priced one USDT at about C$1.41, so a C$100 deposit bought roughly 71 USDT. The CAD value of a USDT balance moves whenever the Canadian dollar moves against the US dollar.
Which crypto casinos take USDT on TRC20?
Per their own pages on September 26, 2026, Stake lists TRC20 among five USDT networks and Winz among six. BitStarz, Roobet and 7Bit don’t name their USDT networks in text, so check the cashier. The Bitcoin guide covers the other coin those casinos all take.
